Trying for a baby but no luck?

Acupuncture is probably most effective for those couples who whilst they do not have any structural problems preventing conception / pregnancy, have either functional issues such as irregular ovulation or what is far more common simply after all tests have come back fine still just cant seem to get pregnant. It has not been proven exactly how it works but it seems to prepare the body, regulating the body's systems, aids blood flow to the reproductive organs, stabalises hormone levels and most importantly of all in the majority of cases, reduces stress and its impact on the body. We have seen this time and again in practice at The Pimlico Clinic it being the biggest and most common obstacle to successful conception.

Acupuncture and IVF

Acupuncture is especially beneficial as a complementary therapy for women undergoing in vitro fertilisation, IVF.
A German study done in 2002 showed that of the 80 women who underwent IVF and received acupuncture, 34 women got pregnant, a success rate of 42.5%. Of the 80 women involved in the study who received IVF without any acupuncture treatments only 21 women (26.3%) became pregnant. More recently an American study involving 114 women showed that  51% of the women who had acupuncture and IVF treatments became pregnant versus only 36% of the women who had IVF alone. Deeper analysis of this study revealed that while 8% of the women in the acupuncture group miscarried, the rate in the IVF-only group was 20%. Furthermore women who recieved acupuncture also had lower rates of ectopic pregnancies. With these figures in mind the question is really why wouldn't you?
